MY APPROACH
I am trained in an approach to psychotherapy called gestalt therapy which places an emphasis
on working in the 'here and now'. This means that although the events that are being focussed
on may have happened in the past, they are impacting on a person's life in the present. I see my
role as getting to know you and supporting you towards a greater
understanding of yourself in a confidential and safe environment. As a
gestalt therapist I take a holistic perspective, helping
you to see more clearly the fixed patterns and beliefs that prevent you from leading a satsifying
and creative life in mind, body and spirit.
My approach is non-judgemental,
jargon-free, collaborative and based on my view that a therapeutic
relationship built on trust and openness enables an exploration of the
potential that I believe exists within us all. Through increased self
awareness and dialogue, experimenting with new ways of being and
creative expression, I aim to support an understanding of how a
person's way of being in the world might limit the opportunities and
choices available.
The problems that clients bring to therapy relate to:
• Health: depression, eating disorders, addictions, non-specific symptoms (e.g insomnia)
• Work: stress & feeling burnt out, communication problems, redundancy
• Relationships: anger and rage issues, sexual concerns, divorce, bereavement
• General/non-specific problems: confusion, a search for meaning in life, anxiety, loneliness
